Sant Jordi 2017 — The Day of Roses and Books in Barcelona

Las Ramblas of Barcelona have never been so crowded!

This video attempts to capture the special, one-of-a-kind ambiance of La Diada de Sant Jordi, one of the most beloved and authentic Catalan holidays!

The Day of Saint George (Sant Jordi in Catalan) is a combination of the Day of the Rose and the Day of the Book and takes place every year on April 23rd! The streets of Barcelona (and every other city and town in Catalunya) fill with throngs of people buying roses and books for their loved ones. This has to be one of the most beautiful holidays in the world! Saint George is the patron saint of Catalunya (so this day isn’t celebrated elsewhere in Spain) and he was known as a dragon slayer! From the blood of one of his slain dragons grew a red rose (or so the legend goes). Now, every year people give each other roses and books as gifts, and not just love interests. Everyone gets a flower!

Exploring La Palma — The Most Beautiful Canary Island!

Known as “La Isla Bonita”, the pretty island of La Palma is worlds away from the tourist-filled cities and beaches of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and the other more eastern islands in the chain.

I was expecting some beautiful scenery, but was completely blown away by the forests, farms, jungles, volcanos, canyons, black sand beaches, and villages that we encountered on this trip!
